The New Year began with a new hip and a new friend 🩒

“Gerald” and I enjoying some January sunshine.

Somehow we have slipped into another year 2025 which means that France has now been our home for four and a half years!!!!
As we wish all our friends and family the very best for the year ahead it’s also a good time to reflect as well as look to the future.

Sooooo what have we learnt since this blog began?

Moving across the world takes a bit of organising. Saying goodbye to long time friends is hard. Things don’t always go to plan (I.e Covid stopped the world for awhile.)  Searching for a new home can be frustrating as well as exciting. Dealing with French bureaucracy is stressful! Trying to learn a new language is not easy in your 70’s. Making new friends requires effort. It takes almost as long to drive and ferry to the UK as it does to fly from Oz! (At least from our neck of the woods 😊)

However

..

France is a beautiful country. The history is fascinating. The people are welcoming and polite. The wine is well priced 😂 Civic pride is obvious in many of the small villages. Seniors are respected. The language is beautiful. Property is available and well priced. Litter is non-existent (unless the garbos are on strike!) The architecture is varied and wonderful. Many public events and entertainment are gratuit (free)

This is just one of our local events held every year in the Salle de FĂȘtes – our fully catered fabulous lunch, free for “seniors” and always well attended! Neighbouring villagers join in as we all sit at long trestle tables enjoying excellent food and wine from midday til about 6pm.

Somehow we have now fast forwarded to Spring before I even got this online!!
Glad to say that the crutches have now been discarded and am able to almost run a marathon (not that I could before), but certainly able to get out and do a bit of gardening!
